Half day Ephesus Tour includes a visit to the ancient city Ephesus, which was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world. One of the greatest of the Ionian cities, it became the leading seaport of the region. Its wealth was proverbial. The Greek city was near an old center of worship of a native nature goddess, who was equated with the Greek Artemis, and c.550 B.C. a large temple was built. Ephesus was the trade centre of the ancient world, a religious centre of the early Christianity and today. It was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation. There you will be able to see the Hadrian’s, Trajan’s and the Domitian’s Temples, the huge Roman bath, Harbour Street, the Marble Street, The Gate of Mazeus and Mythridates, Commercial Agora, Latrine, the Scholastica Baths, Curetes Street, Pollio Fountain, Memmius Monument, the Prytaneion, Odeon, the State Agora, the Celcus Library and The Great Theater, which is the largest in Anatolia.
The Artemis Temple is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today one can only see the ruins of the foundations of this marvelous construction of the Hellenistic Age, entirely made of marble and full of sculptured columns’ capitals and shafts. The most beautiful remains of this temple are today exhibited in the London British Museum.
The tour includes demonstration of tradational Turkish handicraft at the carpet weaving center. Shopping there is optional.
The tour ends at the Kusadasi port/hotel.
