Full day Ephesus Tour includes a visit to the ancient city Ephesus, which was one of the largest cities in the Mediterranean world. One of the greatest of the Ionian cities, it became the leading seaport of the region. Its wealth was proverbial. The Greek city was near an old center of worship of a native nature goddess, who was equated with the Greek Artemis, and c.550 B.C. a large temple was built. Ephesus was the trade centre of the ancient world, a religious centre of the early Christianity and today. It was one of the seven churches of Asia that are cited in the Book of Revelation. There you will be able to see the Hadrian’s, Trajan’s and the Domitian’s Temples, the huge Roman bath, Harbour Street, the Marble Street, The Gate of Mazeus and Mythridates, Commercial Agora, Latrine, the Scholastica Baths, Curetes Street, Pollio Fountain, Memmius Monument, the Prytaneion, Odeon, the State Agora, the Celcus Library and The Great Theater, which is the largest in Anatolia.

During the tour you will visit Terrace Houses, also called as “the houses of rich”; they give us information about family life during the Roman period. Ephesus Terrace Houses are covered with protective roofing which resembles Roman houses. The mosaics on the floor and the frescos have been consolidated and two houses have been opened to the public as a museum.

The Artemis Temple is one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Today one can only see the ruins of the foundations of this marvelous construction of the Hellenistic Age, entirely made of marble and full of sculptured columns’ capitals and shafts. The most beautiful remains of this temple are today exhibited in the London British Museum.

The House of Virgin Mary is the place, where she spent the last years of her life. It is a typical Roman architectural example, entirely made of stones. In the 4th century AD, a church, combining her house and grave, has been built. It is a popular place of Catholic pilgrimage which has been visited by three recent popes. Another interesting place is the “Water of Mary”, a source to be found at the exit of the church area and where water with curative properties can be drunk.

Ephesus excavation site you will be able to see in Ephesus Archeology Museum.

The Basilica of St. John, which was a great church in Ephesus, was constructed by Emperor Justinian in the 6th century. It stands over the believed burial site of St. John, who is identified as the apostle, evangelist (author of the Fourth Gospel) and prophet (author of Revelation). From the hill where the Basilica was erected, you will have a wonderful panoramic view of the valley of Ephesus.

The tour includes demonstration of tradational Turkish handicraft at the carpet weaving center. Shopping there is optional.
